Volunteer Marine Rescue Southport-Surfers Paradise (VMR400) was originally formed as the Southport-Surfers Paradise Air Sea Rescue Association in December 1968. The aim for this enthusiastic group was to assist boaties and fishermen in crossing the notorious Southport Bar.

The VMR400 rescue base at Southport is manned 24 hours each day, 7 days per week and monitors all distress frequencies and a number of working frequencies.

The safety of life and the preservation of property are the main goals of this highly trained volunteer community service organisation.

All Active Members of Volunteer Marine Rescue Southport / Surfers Paradise (VMR400) are volunteers.

VMR400 radio operators play an essential role in marine search and rescue for the Gold Coast. They provide the communications vital to effective assistance on the water.

Radio Operators VMR Base

The VMR400 flotilla consists of 3 fast speed rescue vessels: 2 catamaran vessels and a single hull rigid inflatable vessel.

Our primary Rescue vessel, SAR Club 1, is 9.5 metres and is powered by two 250 HP Suzuki four stroke motors and the vessel is in 2C survey.

Our secondary rescue vessel, Marine Rescue 2, is a 7.5 metre catamaran vessel in 2C survey.  It is powered by two 250 HP Suzuki four stroke motors.

Our training vessel, Satisfaction Marine 1, is a 6.5 metre single hull rigid inflatable vessel. It is powered by one 175 HP Suzuki four stroke motor and the vessel is in 2C survey.
