VMR Southport’s latest edition to their Rescue fleet was launched by Peta Kay Croft, Member for Broadwater, at the VMR400 Base on The Spit on Saturday 11 August 2007. The Master of Ceremonies, Senior Skipper Greg Turner, open the formalities as the tide peaked around 10am. He welcomed Ms Peta Kaye Croft, Councillor Dawn Crichlow, Division 6 Gold Coast City Council, Councillor Susie Douglas, Division 7 Gold Coast City Council, Mr Ron Melton representing Emergency Management Queensland, Mr Al Windsor representing Queensland Ambulance Service, Mr Harry Hubner Secretary Manager VMRAQ, Mr John Jacobsen, President VMRAQ, Gary Mohr Police Chaplain, Mr Michael Kyle VMR Southport Honorary Solicitor, and Steve Ciobo MP Federal Member for Moncrieff.
“This is probably one of the best designed rescue vessels launched by VMR Southportt, with many up-to-date design features incorporated ... ” said the President, Pete Cartwright in his welcoming address, and went on to acknowledge ... “Steve Pomas and his dedicated boat committee.” The Police Chaplain, Gary Mohr, then blessed the vessel and Peta Kaye Croft christened “Marine Rescue 2”, and the vessel was then well and truly launched.
The craft has also been welcomed to the fleet by the VMR Southport boat crews who acknowledged the improved design of the Noosa Cat. Enhanced bow design reduces the bow spray which keeps the boat “drier”. As the images show, the craft is basically an open rescue boat made to suit the fast dash needs of the inshore and offshore needs of the Gold Coast area.

Big Chilli Coolers Boat & Fishing Show
The Big Chilli Coolers Boat & Fishing Show was held on July 6th – 8th at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. Although smaller than that held in October 2006, it was well supported by the boating fraternity.
Local fishing personality Paul Burt, hosted the show’s stage presentations, assisted by expert fishing presenters covering many interesting and informative subjects. VMR Southport active members manned Stand #290, for the three days, promoting new memberships and our major raffle. The raffle for the Sea Jay 3.5m Nomad boat, supplied by Satisfaction Marine, was drawn on Tuesday July 10th at the VMR Base. Congratulations to the winner – David Lee, of Broadbeach Waters.

Our original SAR Club 1 rescue boat was sold and has a new private owner on the Gold Coast. The new rescue vessel will also be called SAR Club 1.
The 6 member "Boat Replacement Committee", under the chairmanship of Senior Skipper Greg Turner and members Trevor Park, Steve Pomas, Chris Leech, Hank Waalkens and Daren Shiel developed the rescue vessels specification to meet the VMR400 squadron's special requirements. The new recue vessel is a fast speed catamaran that meets the survey requirements of a "2C Sea Going Vessel". It also has excellent first aid facilities and has the latest navigation and safety equipment.
Official guests from Queensland State Government and the Gold Coast Local Government, and a large number of VMR members and members of the general public enjoyed the very special boat launching event at the VMR 400 base at Southport.
